The California group is donating part of the proceeds from “The Green Album” to environmental groups. This is coming from a band that has never been afraid of breaking the rules – and that includes meshing punk rock and hip-hop, along with some acoustic and reggae influences. “The attitude of Kottonmouth Kings is definitely punk rock … the do-it-yourself, make your own rules. Kevin Hoover’s So-Called Thoughts: Cannabis craziness is ending It’s as though eight years in, the 21st century has finally begun. Of course we need sustainable energy. Of course we need an equitable tax policy. Of course we need a logical model for health care. And transportation, and the environment, and education, and agriculture, and the economy. Of course. All the pent-up obsolescence of the old ways is finally collapsing, and the more changey things get, the more popular our new president becomes. That change may include the demise of Reefer Madness as we know it, and we know it all…

The active ingredient in marijuana cuts tumor growth in common lung cancer in half and significantly reduces the ability of the cancer to spread , say researchers at Harvard University who tested the chemical in both lab and mouse studies. They say this is the first set of experiments to show that the compound, Delta-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), inhibits EGF-induced growth and migration in epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) expressing non-small cell lung cancer cell lines. Lung cancers that over-express EGFR are usually highly aggressive and resistant to chemotherapy. Why is it that the story about cannabis being linked to testicular cancer…

Robert Holding can count himself lucky he doesn’t live here. If he did, he’d likely have had his brains blown out by one of our armies of liberation. Mr Holding (72) was given a suspended sentence at Burnley Crown Court a fortnight ago for delivering cannabis to fellow pensioners while doing his daily milk round. Customers ordered their supply by leaving a note on the doorstep in a milk bottle. The typical order was a pint of gold-top and an eighth. “It was for elderly people who had aches and pains,” he explained.Cannabis, or marijuana, has been used in medicine…

THE HAGUE, 20/12/08 – People with five cannabis plants in their home will not be prosecuted, no matter how much cannabis the plants produce, the appeal court in Den Bosch has ruled. The police have for years maintained a policy of not considering five plants at home an offence, because they can be seen as ornamental plants or for personal use of cannabis and not for commercial cultivation. The Public Prosecutor’s Office (OM) did not consider those criteria relevant in this case because 6,712 grams of cannabis was found in the home of the suspects, a couple from Uden. The…

Regular readers will recall the confused mess that is this government’s cannabis policy. There has been a drop in cannabis consumption since it was downgraded from Class B to C, but nevertheless they want to put it back up to Class B again. Yes, we know all about the argument that what you ingest is entirely your business, it being your body and all that but morals are always trumped by politics. In the comments section to our last piece the general consensus was that the policy was driven either by a craven servility to the Murdoch press or, as…

In the article “Is cannabis innocent?” (News & Star, Oct 9), Ross Brewster wrote: “before we rush to the conclusion that cannabis is an innocent stimulant, no different from cigarettes and a glass or three of wine, the case of Marc Middlebrook should make us stop and think.” Clearly smoking cannabis can have different effects on different people, and as Ross also says, medical benefits for some. But let’s get the facts straight, cannabis is very different from cigarettes and alcohol. About 50 per cent of tobacco users die prematurely due to the habit; nicotine is one of the most…
