As the greying of America occurs, more and more baby boomers are retiring, and the country is facing a deluge of health-related costs from its aging population. Chief among those costs is the burden of treating chronic arthritis — a painful, common joint disease for which there is no cure and limited treatment options. But the greying of America is coinciding with a revolution in the understanding of how medical cannabis works on arthritis pain. There is a large body of both pre-clinical and patient-reported support for the use of cannabinoid therapy for both rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. A few…

The New Mexico Court of Appeals has ruled that medical cannabis patients who are injured on the job must be reimbursed by an employer for the expense of cannabis used in the treatment of their injury. In the court’s ruling, Judge James Wechsler wrote that a workers’ compensation judge was correct in ruling that American General Media had to reimburse Sandra Lewis of Albuquerque for the cannabis he used while on leave from a work-related injury. American General Media is the owning group of several New Mexico radio stations. In the ruling, Wechsler pointed to a 2013 U.S. Department of…

A wonderful surprise ant-prohibitionist news for all growers, grow shops and associations. I tell you about the updated public security law that takes effect July 1. Excuse my translations.. The minimum fine has remained around 600 euros, not 1000 plus as feared. This administrative penalty is still valid for possession in public places, roads, public buildings or public transport etc. The good news is that a paragraph has been clarified and amended on the cultivation of cannabis, and is said to be punishable only “in visible public places” (Art. 36.18). Democratic history here in Spain expresses criminalized acts and illicit…
A new study published in The Lancet Psychiatry, and funded by the U.S. National Institute on Drug Abuse, shows no significant difference in adolescent cannabis use in the states that have legalized medical use of the substance. This comprehensive study examined 24 years of data from over a million teenagers in 48 states, and found absolutely no evidence that legalized medical cannabis has led to teenagers using cannabis at higher rates. “Our findings provide the strongest evidence to date that marijuana use by teenagers does not increase after a state legalizes medical marijuana”, says Deborah Hasin, Professor of Epidemiology at…
Belo Horizonte, Brazil: The administration of the non-psychotropic cannabinoid cannabidiol (CBD) reduces cocaine-induced toxicity and lethality, according to preclinical data published in the journal Mediators of Inflammation. Investigators at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Institute of Biological Sciences assessed the role of CBD in the mitigation of cocaine-induced toxicity in mice. Authors reported that CBD administration inhibited cocaine-induced seizure and liver injury in mouse subjects while also increasing survival rates. Researchers concluded, “Here, we described for the first time that previous treatment with phytocannabinoid CBD abolished cocaine induced acute seizure in mice, indicating anticonvulsant effect, in parallel with anti-inflammatory…
A new study published by the journal Life Science, and published online by the National Institute of Health, has found that cannabinoid receptor activation – something done naturally by cannabis – can attenuate damage and improve memory retention following a stroke. “We have recently demonstrated that treatment with a cannabinoid CB2 agonist was protective in a mouse middle cerebral artery occlusion model of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury”, begin’s the study’s abstarct. “The present study aimed to determine whether these protective effects of CB2 agonism would extend to a mouse photoinjury model of permanent ischemia and determine associated alterations in cognition and…
Medical cannabis is well known to cancer patients. A large number of Israelis receive it as part of their palliative care for dealing with the symptoms of the disease, as cannabis has been found to be effective in relieving chronic pain, nausea and loss of appetite. Scientists from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa have been researching completely different possibilities for the use of cannabis by cancer patients – as an active treatment against the development of the disease itself. A precedent-setting study examined how dozens of strains of cannabis affect the development and growth of hundreds of types…
