CannabisNI is a website dedicated to cannabis. It brings together news, views, legal information, research, and cultural discussion to help people in Northern Ireland better understand cannabis, its uses, and its place in society.
The site exists as a reference point — somewhere people can learn about cannabis beyond the narrow and often misleading narratives that have historically dominated mainstream media. CannabisNI covers law, medical developments, studies, and broader cannabis culture, with a clear focus on relevance to Northern Ireland.
Why CannabisNI exists
CannabisNI was started in 2009 out of a sense that something was missing. At the time, there was no Northern Ireland–focused cannabis website, despite growing international discussion around medical cannabis, patient experiences, and emerging research.
Hearing about medical cannabis developments in the USA and elsewhere, alongside concerns about contaminated cannabis locally, highlighted the need for better awareness. The aim was to bring credible cannabis news and stories to a Northern Ireland audience, encourage discussion, and help challenge stigma by sharing information that was rarely given space elsewhere.
CannabisNI has always been openly pro-cannabis. It exists to inform, to question, and to broaden understanding — not to sensationalise or repeat outdated assumptions.
Over the years, many people have contributed in different ways — with content, ideas, graphics, social media, and technical support — helping shape CannabisNI into what it is today.
Who the site is for
CannabisNI is for cannabis consumers first and foremost, particularly those in Northern Ireland. It is also for anyone who wants to learn about cannabis — whether from a legal, medical, cultural, or historical perspective — without filtering everything through fear-based or moralising frameworks.
For many years, cannabis was presented almost exclusively as a dangerous substance with no value or place in society. CannabisNI exists as an alternative to that narrative, recognising cannabis as a plant with real-world uses, risks, benefits, and cultural significance, and as something that deserves informed discussion rather than silence or distortion.
Perspective and experience
CannabisNI is intentionally anonymous. The focus is on cannabis, not on personal branding or identity.
That said, the site is shaped by long-term lived experience. It is informed by nearly 30 years of cannabis use, curiosity, study, and engagement with cannabis culture. The perspective here is that of a consumer, a connoisseur, and someone who has followed cannabis research, law, and public debate closely for decades.
This experience influences how topics are approached: with interest, scepticism where appropriate, and an understanding that cannabis is neither harmless mythology nor moral panic — but a complex subject worth taking seriously.
Editorial approach
CannabisNI publishes content intended for awareness, education, and reference. Topics include:
- Cannabis law, particularly in Northern Ireland
- Medical cannabis and emerging research
- Cultural and social perspectives
- Consumer-focused discussion and questions
Content aims to provide context, reflect real-world experience, and acknowledge complexity. Cannabis is not treated as a miracle substance, nor as a social threat, but as something that benefits from honest, informed conversation.
